Nat'l Summer Learning Day: Putting the "Summer" into MN Summer School

MINNEAPOLIS - It may be summer break, but a busy day is planned for thousands of children as part of National Summer Learning Day today. It's an annual event intended to raise awareness of the importance of high-quality summer educational opportunities for all kids. In Minnesota, Minneapolis Public Schools have reframed their approach to summer school by dubbing it "Camp MPS." The change is not in name alone, says Mary Barrie, who oversees the summer learning programs; in keeping with the camp feel, the district has incorporated more hands-on learning activities.
