"Cornucopia Artist Spotlight" at Lanesboro Arts Center: Jewelry by Laura Stamper

Lanesboro Arts Center will feature "Wearable Sculpture: The Feminine Form," Jewelry by Laura Stamper in the Cornucopia Artist Spotlight. A program of the Juried Sales Gallery, the Spotlight will run July 10 - Sept. 6, 2010, with an artist reception on Saturday, July 10, 6-8 p.m. in the galleries, 103 Parkway Ave. N. in Lanesboro, Minn. The reception and Spotlight are free to the public! The galleries are open seven days a week through October: Mon.-Thurs. 10-5, Fri.-Sat. 10-7, Sun. 11-3.
From New Hope, Minnesota, Laura Stamper creates unique pieces of wearable sculpture crafted from porcelain and gemstones, and set in mixed metals. From childhood she was greatly affected by the beauty in nature, and is drawn now to unusual materials, inclusive of minerals and rough-cut stone. Recently she has been creating images of the feminine form. Studied as a portrait painter, Laura does not think of herself as a jeweler but rather as an illustrator in porcelain miniatures. She approaches each piece of jewelry like a painting, keeping in mind composition, color, negative space and subject. Finished pieces reveal a whimsy that comes to life in her creations. Laura Stamper's jewelry is sold at art shows across the nation, through select galleries and through the fine arts catalog, Uno Alla Volta (meaning "One at a Time").
The Cornucopia Artist Spotlight serves to highlight the work of selected Juried Sales Gallery artists individually throughout the year. Each artist creates new work for display, and is featured in a "Meet the Artist" reception. The Spotlight challenges artists to explore new methods and/or subject matter, increases the artists' profile, and raises community awareness of the chosen media.
The name "Cornucopia" lives on in the Artist Spotlight program in honor of our founding members, and in the spirit of the coop of artists that created the energy for this arts center. Prior to merging with the Lanesboro Art Council in January 2010, the Lanesboro Arts Center was known as the Cornucopia Art Center.
The Cornucopia Artist Spotlight program is supported by the Minnesota State Arts Board, through funding from the Minnesota State Legislature, and by members of Lanesboro Arts Center.
In Lanesboro, Minnesota, the Lanesboro Arts Center is a professional, not-for-profit organization that serves as a catalyst for artistic and educational development in providing diverse art experiences for people of all ages. 507-467-2446 / info@lanesboroarts.org / www.lanesboroarts.org.
