Families: they’re more complex than we give them credit for…especially their care and maintenance. From the time the idea of starting a family comes to mind there are so many things we need to think about and plan for. But you don’t need to go it alone … let us help! Fillmore County Public Health offers a variety of programs through its Family Health Team aimed at helping families attain and maintain healthy bodies and minds - as well as helping to prepare youngsters to be ready to learn.

At Fillmore County Public Health, our Family Health Team is ready to help link you with the information and programs you can use to help get your family off to a good start. Our WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and Maternal/Child Health programs are designed to provide information and good nutrition during pregnancy - preparing moms for that gift of motherhood. Our Maternal/Child Health Specialist offers education on pregnancy, delivery, parenting, car seats, breastfeeding - information parents want to know.

The birth of the baby opens up a new world of questions and possibilities that can seem daunting. Babies don’t come with instructions and figuring out what to do and where to get good information can be confusing. Enrolling in the Follow Along Program (FAP) begins a sharing of information between us about your child from birth through age three giving you a chance to see how developmental milestones are being met and how you can help her meet her next set of milestones and challenges.

If your child is enrolled in a Minnesota Health Insurance Plan (MA, U-Care or MinnesotaCare) Child & Teen Check-ups (C&TC) is designed to help you put the pieces of your healthcare puzzle together. Child & Teen Check-ups is how Minnesota refers to the comprehensive well-child checks recommended by the Minnesota Department of Health. Asking for C&TC by name is a way to ensure that your clinic allows ample time to include all of the components of these important, periodic check-ups including: Health history, growth measurements, developmental checks, physical exam, age-appropriate health and development information, immunizations, vision and hearing checks, and laboratory tests as needed.

Recommendations for periodic dental checks are included, as well.

C&TC: Think of it as your owner’s manual AND your maintenance guide. It’s there for your children from cradle to college to help you keep track of what they need and when they need it.

Call us at 507-765-3898 if you have questions about any of these programs. Joanie, Kari, Tina, Vicky, and Kathy work together to serve the families of Fillmore County.

Making connections … with people and programs that can help us become the successful community, family, person we’re meant to be…that’s our hope and our commitment. YOU are the Public in Public Health.
