June 28, 2010 - Area Southeastern Minnesota McDonald's restaurants and one of its trusted suppliers, Kemps, are teaming up to help spread the message of the importance of dairy to our community.

One of the ways McDonald's will increase awareness to the community is by featuring Todd and Stacy Leiding and family from Fountain, MN on in-store promotional materials. The Leiding farm is one of the many farms in the area whose milk goes to Kemps in Rochester, MN. The milk is then bottled and shipped to McDonald's restaurants throughout the Midwest.

Area McDonald's will also be participating in a promotion when customers purchase

a 3 pack of fresh-baked cookies for a $1 they will receive a $1 off coupon for a Kemps milk to use at a local retail store.

Courtesy Corporation- McDonald's will also be participating in 4 local dairy breakfasts in the month of June. "We are proud to help provide McDonald's products to these events and promote locally grown food and family farming in Wisconsin," said Dawn Burns, Marketing Manager for Courtesy Corporation.

At 10:00am on June 30th at the McDonald's on Bridge Ave in Albert Lea will be hosting an "Open Door Day" in which community members and media are invited to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the restaurant, learn about local McDonald's suppliers, and the economic impact on the area. The Bridge Ave McDonald's is located at 2808 Bridge Ave in Albert Lea, MN.

"The Open Door Day event will be an opportunity to tour the restaurant and learn more about McDonald's and our farm to front counter message," Burns said. Among those invited are the media, a local farm family, Kemps employees, local dairy associations, chamber members and city officials. The Leiding family will be in attendance to discuss their family farm near Fountain, MN. The event is expected to last about an hour.

McDonald's restaurants throughout the Wisconsin & Minnesota support area farmers by purchasing locally grown beef, milk, and cheese for use in McDonald's well-known products. McDonald's purchased $15 million of potatoes from Minnesota farmers in 2009.

Kemps, the Rochester, MN based family-owned business provides restaurants with over 34 million milk jugs annually. Kemps buys milk from farmers within a 60-80 mile radius of their facility in order to process milk at its peak freshness and provide the consumer with healthy, delicious milk.
