Opal Viola Lubrecht, 88, of Harmony, Minn. died peacefully after a short illness on Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Opal was born on November 16, 1924 in York Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ingval and Clara (Hendrickson) Bjortomt. Opal cared for her parents up until their deaths while living in Bristol Center, Minnesota. On April 15, 1958 she married Arthur Lubrecht at Saetersdal Lutheran Church, rural Harmony. They moved to their home in Greenleafton in 1969 where they lived until 2005. During that time she worked at HECO for nine years followed by 20 years as a home health aide. Art and Opal moved to the Harmony Manor in 2005 and from there they moved to Harmony Healthcare Center. They were happily married 51 years. Art died in 2009 at the age of 100. God’s gift to Opal was the ability to be a caregiver. She used that gift and touched the lives of everyone around her.
Opal was a longtime member of Saetersdal Lutheran Church. She loved gardening, canning her own vegetables and crocheting in her younger years.
Opal is survived by one brother, Kenny Bjortomt of Two Harbors, Minnesota; 13 nieces and nephews; and 23 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother Lyle (Buddy) Bjortomt; and one sister Leona Grabau.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Saetersdal Lutheran Church with Rev. Maureen Hagen officiating. Burial was in the Saetersdal Lutheran Cemetery.
