Saint Paul, MN -The Minnesota State Arts Board today awarded 34 grants to Minnesota artists and organizations through the FY 2013 Arts Tour Minnesota program. These Arts Board grants, totalling $1,584,492, support Minnesota touring artists and arts organizations to present concerts, theater, dance, puppetry, readings, and workshops to new Minnesota communities, and support Minnesota organizations to host diverse touring artists. The grants are estimated to serve 80,000 community members.
Arts Tour Minnesota grants are funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature to the Minnesota State Arts Board from the State's arts and cultural heritage fund. The Arts Tour Minnesota grant program ensures that more Minnesotans and communities access art by diverse local, national, and international artists.
Some of the activities supported by FY 2013 Arts Tour Minnesota grants include: Minnesota State University-Mankato hosting seventeen regional and national writers for the 2013-2014 Good Thunder Reading Series; the Minnesota Opera presenting Puccini's _La bohème_ in Faribault; the vocal ensemble Cantus performing in Bemidji, Glenwood, and Wadena; Shapiro and Smith Dance bringing their acclaimed work about the 1894 Hinckley fire to Hinckley and Grand Marais; and the History Theatre touring _Beyond the Rainbow: Garland at Carnegie Hall_ to Grand Rapids, Detroit Lakes, and Dawson.

Puppeteer Aronson and collaborators will tour Z Puppets Monkey Mind Pirates performances and workshops to sixteen northern Minnesota sites in summer 2013, integrating puppetry, music, and yoga to give families creative tools for finding calm.
ARTS MIDWEST, MINNEAPOLIS $37,213
Arts Midwest World Fest, a performing arts touring program, will present international musicians in week-long residencies in rural Midwestern communities.
BACH SOCIETY OF MINNESOTA, SAINT PAUL $7,125
The Bach Society of Minnesota will tour baroque and jazz music to Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter in order to expand the Bach Society's audience and to support the college's role in the local music community.
CANTUS, MINNEAPOLIS $33,948
Cantus will perform its program, _A Place for Us_, in Bemidji, Glenwood, and Wadena. Open rehearsals in each community will share best practices in working collaboratively.
CENTRAL SQUARE, GLENWOOD $14,900
Central Square, in Glenwood, will present the world-famous tenor J. Mark McVey and singer/songwriter John Gorka in concert, along with a number of community engagement activities, such as workshops, performances in area nursing homes and schools, and a flash mob music event in downtown Glenwood.

Backus Community Center will present two diverse performances as part of its 2013-14 season, including music by Chris Koza and Rogue Valley, and _The Mill_, a play by Jeannine Coulombe.

The College of Saint Benedict will present the free outdoor concert series, Sunset Stages at Saint Ben's, featuring five Minnesota artists, to engage the Saint Joseph community in summer arts activities.

The College of Saint Scholastica will present three performances featuring Minnesota artists Rhythmic Circus, Connie Evingson, and Ameriikan Poijat. They will also offer youth workshops on tap dancing and jazz styling for high school choirs.

Shapiro and Smith Dance will stage performances of _Burning Air_, its acclaimed work about the 1894 Hinckley Fire, in Hinckley and Grand Marais. It will provide a host of community activities to deepen engagement with the dance, including a community talk about how the fire affected Pine County, interactive programs for seniors and upper elementary students, and a workshop with a high school creative writing class on turning historical events into art.
