The Minnesota Simmental Association is excited to present Katelyn Ristau, daughter of Doug and Deb Ristau of Preston as the 2013 Minnesota Simmental Queen. She was crowned at the 40th annual MN Simmental Banquet held on February 22 in Rochester, Minn. She was selected as the new Queen on the basis of a speech entitled “It’s an Exciting Time to Be Simmental,” her poise and personality, and knowledge of the Simmental breed. Katelyn will be representing the MN Association by attending cattle shows and fairs, and acting as a spokesperson to promote the Simmental breed and to educate the public about beef in general throughout the year.

Katelyn is a very active and enthusiastic about the beef industry. She is involved in the commercial production of Simmentals on her family farm and enjoys showing. Katelyn has been active in 4-H and FFA by participating and mentoring in the beef project. Katelyn is a member of the Minnesota Junior Simmental Association. She exhibits cattle at the Fillmore County fair as well at the Minnesota State Fair.

Katelyn is a sophomore at South Dakota State University, Brookings, pursuing an Ag Business major, and involved on campus with the Block and Bridle and Little International organizations.

The Minnesota Simmental Association is comprised of producers around the state as well as those close to our borders. The 40th Annual meeting was held Friday followed by the Junior Association meeting and banquet. Weekend activities culminated with the sale of Simgenetics on Saturday at the Olmsted County fairgrounds. Breeders from across the state offered sixty lots that were auctioned off. This year’s sale featured exceptional bred females, show heifers, herd bull prospects, several embryo packages, flushes, as well as the Pick of Brandt Farm Bred Heifers.
