Alta Lucille McCarthy entered Eternal Life on February 24, 2013, at the age of 70.
Resident of Glendale, beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille Simonson, loving and devoted wife of the late John M. McCarthy, dear sister of Janice (Charles) Winch and James (Rita) Simonson, and sisters-in-law Maxine Simonson and Joyce Simonson. Further survived by nieces, a nephew, other relatives and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jerome Simonson and Lyle Simonson.
Alta was a 1962 graduate of Luther College, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and a longtime member of the Glendale Women’s Club. Alta had a true love for life; it was always evident through her contagious and unsurpassed laughter. She was a dedicated educator whose influence went far beyond the classroom. Alta loved her students and made a point of always staying in touch with them as years went on. She loved to coach in the school sports programs and enjoyed being involved in directing the school variety show. Alta believed in what she did, she was a strong advocate for teacher rights, serving many years as a negotiator for the Whitefish Bay Teachers Association.
Alta was always up for broadening her horizon, traveling and learning about the different parts of the world helped make life complete. Her numerous adventures and stories of her travels gave her much to share. She was an avid sports fan and was always up for cheering the Brewers and Packers onto victory. Alta would go the extra mile for anyone in need; she was a true gift to this world. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and never forgotten.
Family will greet friends on Saturday March 9, 2013, from 10:30-12:30 followed by a memorial service honoring Alta’s life. Interment will be private for the family. Memorials in Alta’s name may be made to Union Prairie Church, Lanesboro, Minnesota.
