Habitat for Humanity to launch 2013 Women Build project in Winona with special event on March 4

WINONA, Minn. — Habitat for Humanity Winona-Fillmore Counties is launching a Women Build project — a program that empowers women to build Habitat homes, enabling them to positively impact the lives of children by making homeownership a reality for families.
In preparation for the 2013 Habitat Women Build project, Habitat for Humanity — Winona County is pleased to invite the area public to a kickoff event Monday, March 4th at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. The event will run from 5 to 7 p.m., and participants are invited to drop in anytime. Light refreshments will be served and Women Build merchandise will be available.
If you’re already on a team, come meet the others who will be involved in the build. If you’re not yet on a team, come and find out how you can join a team (or form one of your own!) Come hear more about how you can make home ownership possible for a family in Winona — and about how women can really make a difference. See the impact that several hundred women are already having in our community. We’ll be building community, friendships and much, much more
The purpose of the Women Build program, underwritten nationally by Lowe’s, is to involve more women in the construction of Habitat homes in order to move more people — especially children — out of substandard housing and into safe, decent affordable shelter. More than 12 million children (1 out of every 6) are living in poverty. And women care! Through Women Build, women receive the tools and training to enable them to do something about that appalling fact.
According to Executive Director Nancy Iglesias, the family chosen for this program will be announced this spring, and construction is expected to begin in August 2013. The Women Build home will be located on Front Street in Winona.
