More than 1,000 engaged Minnesotans serve on 87 County Extension Committees, regional and program advisory committees, and Extension’s Statewide Citizen’s Advisory Committee. The Fillmore County Commissioners recently appointed Don Bergey as a citizen representative to the Fillmore County Extension Committee. They also appointed Jake Goeldi as a youth representative. New members are appointed by the county board and usually serve two three-year terms.
The purpose of the Extension Committee is to provide feedback and perspective to Extension by serving as the eyes and ears of Extension’s diverse clientele in the county. The committee is comprised of two county commissioners, the county auditor and six county citizens that bring expertise to strengthen our connections and grow our programs in the county. Others serving on the Fillmore County Extension Committee include: citizen representatives, Keith Brown, Scott Winslow, Rodney Coe, Doris Peterson, and Judy Frank. Melinda Woods serves as a youth representative, while Duane Bakke and Tom Kaase are the County Commissioners with Shirl Boelter, Auditor.
“Extension Committee members are leaders in their communities and provide an important perspective to Extension and the University,” said Regional Director, LuAnn Hiniker. “They assist Extension in fulfilling its mission of connecting local issues and needs with University resources.”
University of Minnesota Extension is a 100-year-old partnership between the university and federal, state and county governments to provide scientific knowledge and expertise to the public. Through Extension, the University of Minnesota “extends” its resources to address critical public issues in priority areas, including food and agriculture, communities, environment, youth and families.
