Rehearsals for Lanesboro Community Theater’s (LCT) production of Leaving Iowa are well underway and director Barbara Benson Keith reports that everyone is having a great time. Leaving Iowa, by Tim Clue and Spike Manton, is a hilarious sentimental comedy about family and family vacations.
In addition to the opportunity to see a great show, the LCT offers the unique opportunity to see local residents playing the characters. Peter Torkelson, Sandy Webb, Tony Cole and Maureen Anderson star in the show. Besides these four talented actors, this play features 22 more of your friends and neighbors, including Emily Spende, Daryl Goetz, Bonita Underbakke, Dan Anderson, Krista Johnson, Barb Jonsgaard, Joel and Bonnie Jean Hulsing, Randy Wilson, Sarah and Olivia Obritsch, Tom Barnes, Krista Flaig, Bill and Karen Swanson, Ceil Allen, Shari Cole, Bethany and Robin Krom, Gordon and Val Tindall and Kathy Mosdal.
It’s a hilarious sentimental comedy about Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, who returns home and decides to finally take his father’s ashes to his childhood home, as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma’s house is now a grocery store, he begins searching for a proper resting place for his father. This father-and-son road trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don’s memories of the annual, torturous vacations of his childhood.
Performances are at the historic St. Mane Theater in Lanesboro on February 22, 23, 24 and March 1, 2, 3, Friday and Saturdays at 7:00pm, Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students. Advance tickets are available at the Lanesboro Arts Center or by calling them at 507-467-2446.
