Winona State University Foundation "Light the Way" Leadership Campaign recently informed Katie A. Sveen of Preston, MN, that she was again selected as the recipient of the Dr. Robert and Barbara Dufresne Scholarship for the amount of $1,000 for the 2010-2011 school year. Katie also received this award for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years. Katie proudly accepted her scholarship from Dr. and Mrs. Dufresne at the scholarship breakfast. Dr. Dufresne was Winona State's President from 1967 to 1977.

"Light the Way" is the University's first comprehensive capital campaign. It includes three initiatives that will position the University to help solve our world's complex challenges and educate leaders who will make a real difference. This campaign is focused on raising $10 million dollars by 2010 for scholarships, the Integrated Wellness Center, and the National Child Protection Training Center. Of this $10 million, $4 million will be designated to the scholarship fund, $3.5 million for the Integrated Wellness Center, and $2.5 million for the National Child Protection Training Center. Scholarships are essential to making college education accessible to a variety of students. These scholarships allow those students, who are willing to work hard, reach their full potential. Katie was also notified that she was awarded the Gil Kraft Secondary Education Scholarship and the Spencer and Judy Munkel Mathematics and Statistics Scholarship, each in the amount of $1,000 for the 2010-2011 school year. These scholarships were also awarded on behalf of the Winona State University Foundation "Light the Way" Leadership Campaign.

Katie will be entering her junior year this fall at Winona State University. She is a double major in mathematics and mathematics secondary education with a minor in Business administration. She is currently involved with the Winona State Symphonic Wind Ensemble and serves on the band executive board. She is also a member of the University Programming and Activities Committee (UPAC). Katie is also involved with work in the Registrar's Office as part of her Work-Study program. She is a 2008 graduate of Lanesboro High School and the daughter of Donna Sveen of Preston, MN.
