NEVA N. OPSAHL, age 88, of Mabel, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel, Minnesota.
Neva was born August 14, 1924 near Riceford, Minnesota to Merton and Fannie (Watkins) Sherburne. She attended the Mabel High School. On July 6, 1953 she married Clinton Opsahl. Clinton died on May 15, 2006. Neva loved her work in the kitchen at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home and was there for 34 years before retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Mabel United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling the United States on bus tours, feeding the birds, watching soap operas and spending time with her family.
Neva is survived by four sons, three from a previous marriage Steve Crawford and Ross (Rita) Crawford both of Decorah, Iowa, and Danny (Shirley) Crawford of Minnetrista, Minnesota, and Lindsay (Mary) Opsahl of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren Sarah, Devin, Tonya, Kristen, Rick, Rob, Ron, and Gina; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; two sisters Zelda Sagdalen and Priscilla Thompson both of Mabel; a brother Milton Sherburne of St. Paul, Minnesota; and special friend and caregiver Claire Dahlberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clinton; and a brother Marvin Sherburne.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Mabel United Methodist Church in Mabel with David Stoeger officiating. Burial will be in the Mabel Public Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 – 5 PM Sunday, February 3 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
