If you’d like to get a taste of foreign culture along with inspirational stories of people helping owls, register now to attend the 11th Annual International Festival of Owls banquet on Saturday, March 2 in Houston, MN. The 2013 World Owl Hall of Fame Awards will be presented at the banquet and Dr. Wolfgang Scherzinger from Germany and Dr. Lucia Liu Severinghaus from Taiwan will each take you on a tour of some of their life’s work with owls.

With a little luck, Francis Kithure from Kenya will also speak about his work changing negative cultural attitudes about owls on Sunday afternoon. No pre-registration is required for this presentation, only an admission button which can be purchased at the door.

Serious photographers will want to register for the Festival’s outdoor photography sessions with the owls on Sunday. Although the birds are captives, they are posed on natural perches and their equipment is usually hidden so you get shots that look like wild owls in this well-regulated session. This event always sells out.

Sunday morning again gives you a taste of culture, both local and foreign, with a birding and natural history bus tour that concludes with a lunch at Houston’s authentic German restaurant. The registration fee includes the meal.

For more information about these and other Festival events and to register, go to www.festivalofowls.com or contact the Houston Nature Center at 507-896-4668.
