At the Fillmore Central School Board meeting on January 22, 2013, new board member Emily Ellis took her oath and was sworn in. Ross Kiehne and Jim Love were also sworn in, as they had been re-elected.
The officers for 2013 will remain the same, with Kiehne the Chairperson, Craig Britton, Vice Chair; Deb Ristau, clerk; and Sue Sikkink, treasurer.
The board salaries will remain the same as last year. The committee assignments were approved, with a few changes. The drivers training fees will also remain the same.
The official newspapers are the Fillmore County Journal, Republic-Leader, and the News Record. First Southeast Bank in Harmony, F&M Community Bank in Preston, First State Bank in Fountain, and the MSDLAF (Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund) are the official depositories. The authority to wire transfer funds and purchase certificates of deposit, and the authority to pay bills that have a penalty for a late payment before the school board meeting were approved. The meeting schedule will remain the same at the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Knutson, Flynn, and Deans will remain the official school district legal counsel, and the posting for official notices will remain at the elementary office, high school office, and district office.
Personnel
Nate Jones was hired as a full-time custodian at the high school.
Maternity leaves for both Tonya Keim and Angie Haugerud were approved. Anne Detlefson and Elisha Himli-Sellbinder were approved for long-term subs.
Spring sports coaches were also approved. Tris Tollefson will be the head softball coach, Brad Holten the head boys golf coach, and Lane Powell will be head coach to girls golf.
Principal report
Principal Heath Olstad gave a report for himself and for Dean Chris Mensink, who could not be at the meeting. He informed the board that the elementary school milk cap/label drive, which was held the second week in January, was very successful, with 76,426 items collected. The fifth grade collected the most, and they will get a pizza party.
The Math Wizards held their first meet on January 10 at Fillmore Central. Also, the One Act Play, under the direction of Jackie Whitacre, performed on January 7, and will be going on to sections competition in Winona.
For the FC Gives Back campaign, in which people bringing canned food in for the food shelves received a discounted price for sporting events, the school collected 190 pounds of food.
Other Business
Ellis, Kiehne, Love, and Superintendent Richard Keith attended an MSBA conference recently, and they updated the board on what they learned.
The February 26 meeting time was changed to 5pm.
