High School Football in the southeastern corner of the state of Minnesota will have a new scheduling format beginning this fall. The twenty five schools that make up the TRC (Three Rivers Conference) and the HVL (Hiawatha Valley League) have combined to create the Southern Football Alliance. The alliance is made up of three divisions based on student enrollment in grades 7-12. The Red Division is made up of the eight largest schools, the White houses the eight medium sized schools and the Blue is home to the nine smallest schools.
•Red Division- Byron, Cannon Falls, Kasson-Mantorville, La-Crescent, Lake City, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Lourdes and Stewartville.
•White Division- Cotter, Dover-Eyota, Kenyon-Wanamingo, Lewiston-Altura, Pine Island, St. Charles, Triton and Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
•Blue Divison- Caledonia, Chatfield, Fillmore Central, Goodhue, Hayfield, Kingsland,
Rushford-Peterson, Southland and Wabasha-Kellogg.
The MSHSL (Minnesota State High School League) has used the “zero week concept” the past two years to help teams schedule eight games. This concept allows schools to play the regularly scheduled eight game season, with a bye week. To make this happen, all zero week teams start practice and have a game a week earlier than the regular MSHSL season. Because R-P is in the nine team division, the zero week concept will be used for the next two football seasons.
This fall R-P high school football will start practice on Monday, August 5th and the first varsity game will be on August 23rd at Southland.
Please let me know if you have any questions in regards to the Southern Football Alliance and the schedule changes.
