A memorial service for Margaret Long will be held Tuesday January 22nd at 11:00 AM at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester. The Reverend Nancy Wheeler Handlon will officiate. Burial of the urn will occur at a later date at Woodland Hills Cemetery in Mankato. Mrs. Long, 86, of Rochester, died Tuesday January 15, 2013 at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester, where she had resided the past few years.
Margaret Mary Busse was born May 29, 1926 in Mahnomen County, Minnesota’s Bejou Township to Alfred and Cora (nee Krusemark) Busse. After the passing of her father the family moved to Mankato, where Margaret graduated from high school. On February 13, 1946, in Mankato, she married Burl Long. The Longs moved to Albert Lea for a brief time and then moved to Rochester. Mrs. Long was a receptionist at C.O. Brown Agency and her husband worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Mrs. Long was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, a member of the Royal Neighbors, and volunteered with the Rochester Methodist Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Long enjoyed her flower garden, was a lifelong tennis player, and enjoyed golfing.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky (James) Soppa, of Rochester; a step-grandson, Matthew Soppa, of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; two sisters, Mildred Johnson, of Mankato, and Marjorie (Harry) Murphy, residing in Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; and a sister, Dorothy.
Visitation, with no reviewal, will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
If so desired, memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic’s Alzheimer’s Research program or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
Online tributes are being welcomed and may be created at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com .
