Leonard E. Leutink
Leonard E. Leutink, Sr., age 89, of Spring Valley, Minn., died Wednesday morning, January 2, 2013, at Spring Valley Senior Living.
Leonard was born February 20, 1923, in rural Cherry Grove, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Carrie (Ter Maat) Leutink. He attended school in the Cherry Grove area. He farmed with his parents until serving with the US Coast Guard during WW II. He married Helen House August 22, 1945, at the Methodist Parsonage in Preston. The couple made their home in the Rochester, Preston, and Wykoff areas until moving to Spring Valley in 1986. Leonard was a mechanic for Ruan Transport in Spring Valley until 1972 when he became a regional maintenance supervisor for Ruan in the western states until he retired in 1978 for medical reasons. He became a resident of Spring Valley Senior Living in October 2012.
Leonard enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; four children, Leonard Jr. of Spring Valley, Janet (Allen) Bly of Sandy, Oregon, Larry (Dorinda) of Hayfield, Minn., and JoAnn (Gary) Hamlin of Spring Valley; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lynnette Blanco; two brothers, Harold and Henry Leutink; and one sister, Pearl Ruesink.
Friends called at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, for a time visitation. Burial was in the Greenleafton Cemetery.
