Funeral services for Joseph Hamre were held on Thursday December 27, 2012 at the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church in Cherry Grove with the Rev Mark Rader and Rev Beth Perez officiating. Burial was in the Etna Cemetery
Joseph Hamre, age 85, of Spring Valley, MN died Saturday, December 22, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Joseph Winston Hamre was born September 17, 1927 in Halstad, MN to Joseph I. and Aileene (Baldwin) Hamre. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1945 and served in the Navy from 1945 to 1948, after his discharge he attended St Olaf College and graduated from Mankato State University. On July 26, 1952, Joe was united in marriage to Corene Owens in Mankato, MN.
Joe taught for 25 years at Magnolia, MN, Northfield, MN and Area Vocational School in Preston. After teaching, he farmed in rural Spring Valley for 11 years. Then he moved to Spring Valley and spent winters in Arizona for 22 years. Joe was a member of the Spring Valley Sportsmen Club, The Mason and Eastern Star, Hanson Raabe VWF Post and the Everett H. Hale American Legion Post, he served on the Bloomfield Insurance Board, and was active in Minnesota LST Association. He enjoyed reading, walking, wood working, playing cards, and his early morning coffee at Tom Fowlers’ gas station.
Joe is survived by his wife Corene of Spring Valley, MN, children Stephen (Rayna) Hamre of Huntington Beach, CA, Mary (Bill) Stroeing of Maplewood, MN, and Robert (Kathlene) Hamre of Rochester, MN. 5 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, and brother.
The family asks for memorials in lieu of flowers.
