American Red Cross - Southeast Minnesota Chapter Summer 2010 Lay Responder First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Course

The Southeast Minnesota Chapter will be offering the First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
course. Students who complete the course will be able to teach American Red Cross
classes in First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED). The
First Aid/CPR/AED program is intended to be taught in the workplace and/or to the
general public. Please review the following if you are interested in becoming an
instructor.
First Aid/CPR/AED Instructors can teach the following:
· Adult, Child and Infant CPR and AED
· Standard First Aid
· Injury-control modules
· Sports Safety Training
· Basic Aid Training (Youth Course)
LOGISTICS:
All instructor course sessions will be held at the Rochester Red Cross office,
310 14th Street SE, Rochester, 55904

1 Fundamentals of Instructor Training/Skills Pretest
Tuesday, July 20 , 8:00 am-5:30 pm
2 Skills Pre Test/Specialty course
Thursday, July 22, 8:00 am-5:30 pm
3 Specialty course Tuesday, July 27 , 8:00 am-12:30 pm
4 Specialty course
Thursday, July 29 , 8:00 am-12:30 pm
ATTENDANCE AT ALL SESSIONS IS MANDATORY[i]
PREREQUISITES:
1. You must be at least 17 years by the end of the last session.
2. You must demonstrate proficiency in all CPR, AED and First Aid skills and
knowledge during the first two sessions.
· FEE: $198.00 fee includes all instructor and student level textbooks, training
materials, and instructor courses.
*Note* Instructors who wish to volunteer for the Southeast Minnesota Chapter have an
opportunity to receive a refund of a portion of their course fee. Inquire further when
registering.
REGISTRATION:
Registrations are taken by phone using a credit card, by mailing a check or you can also
stop by the chapter office between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through
Thursday, and 8:00 am - 3:00 pm on Fridays. The fee may also be billed to your place
of business. Make checks payable to American Red Cross and mail to:

PREPARATION:
1. Participant's manual for the course(s) you wish to teach will be provided on the first
session. Instructor's manuals will be given to you at appropriate times during the
sessions and are included in your fee.
2. You must become completely familiar with the manuals and videos for the course(s)
you wish to teach.
3. You should bring your copies of the participant's manual(s), instructor's manual(s),
and FIT manual to each class with you.
4. At the end of Session 2 you will be given practice teaching assignments to prepare
for the next session. The assignments will give you experience in presenting
information to course participants, running practice sessions, and giving skill checks.
It will also give you the opportunity to practice using the audiovisual equipment.
5. An Authorized Instructor Trainer will evaluate you during each of your practice
teaching assignments. You will also take a short multiple-choice test in each session
covering material taught in the course and material in the instructor's manual. In
order to receive certification as an instructor, you must be rated as competent in
each practice teaching assignment and score at least 80% on each test.
