Many people are familiar with the expression, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure,” and this may just be the case for those shoppers who find themselves entering Lanesboro’s recently opened store called GETFRESH Vintage. Sue Whitney, the store’s owner, opened the Lanesboro shop back in August and has been serving the unique tastes of her customers for the past few months. However, Whitney’s parent company, titled JunkMarket, has been in operation even longer. Through her series of books and television interview appearances, Whitney expresses her passion for creativity through her one of a kind creations found for sale in her store.

Upon walking into GETFRESH Vintage, one will find three differently themed rooms. The first contains a very diverse selection of items for individuals to find inspiration and come up with ideas of their own for decorating their homes. The vintage look consists of many different style ideas. The second room is more for organic design featuring themes of nature, and will change with the season. The third and final room is a kick-back room, where Whitney plans on keeping it like a sitting room where she can serve customers blended teas and other compliments as they are shopping. She has a future goal to open an outdoor addition using the garage portion of the building.

Where Whitney gets her ideas is fascinating. When asked how she develops her ideas, she joked, “I don’t sleep at night.” And while that may be true, all of her customers can be assured she utilizes her creative mind to come up with the majority of her own ideas. Sue Whitney works to satisfy the needs of people in her product. As she is inspired by fashion and interior design she makes use of “pretty and practical” objects that she finds. She also urges people to look at what they have and how they can utilize it.

GETFRESH Vintage is a launch for Sue Whitney, making her goals into a complete circle. Before deciding to bring her business to Lanesboro, she looked at various small towns for about a year before she made her decision. After seeing the opportunity to collaborate with other businesses such as the Commonweal Theatre and the Chamber of Commerce, she knew that this was the location for her as she loves the small-town atmosphere and scenery. She also commented on how warmly she has been received by the community.

For the future of GETFRESH, Sue Whitney plans on closing for the winter months effective December 23 until she will open up again in March. But during that time she will be planning to serve the diverse groups of people who will enter her store in the spring. She will also be planning events similar to the GETFRESH Girl’s Weekend that was held in November. Until December 23, GETFRESH will be open Fridays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. (or until business dies down), and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more information on GETFRESH Vintage call 507-467-2922 or visit in person during store hours at 116 Parkway North in Lanesboro.
