The Preston Fire Department and Ambulance crew were called to the scene of a house fire between Preston and Lanesboro on Highway 16 on the morning of Tuesday, November 13. The Lanesboro Fire Department also assisted them.
By the time the first responder arrived, the house was consumed by fire and smoke. The house was a total loss, as damage was estimated to be around $250,000.
A witness reported seeing someone leave the home in a vehicle, and smoke coming from the house. According to Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen, they have reason to believe that the fire was started intentionally. They are not sure exactly how the fire was started at this time.
The owner of the home, who was taken into custody shortly after the fire, was expected to be charged at the Fillmore County Courthouse on November 15.
