New furnaces and air conditioners at the Spring Valley library

At the Spring Valley council meeting the major item of concern was the news from the library that the furnaces and air conditioners for the building are in bad condition. The units on the roof have been leaking carbon monoxide, and it isn’t a safe environment. The units were installed when the library was built and according to Mayor Struzyk, “We have had nothing but trouble with those units.” The estimated cost for replacement will be five to six thousand dollars. There is money in the Library Capital Fund to pay for new units, and the Council passed a resolution authorizing the outlay of these funds to “get rid” of the troublesome furnaces and air conditioners.
The Library Board will be meeting on Thursday to take action with the approval of the Council. The Library Board has been depending on Sheldon Plumbing and Heating to keep them repaired in the past, and it is believed that Sheldon’s will get the nod to order new units.
Another item on the agenda was to set the date for a public hearing on the establishment of a Tax Increment Financing District No 1-12 and the Tax Increment Financing Plan. The Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, November 28 at 6:00. The property being considered is to the west of Kwik Trip on a vacant lot adjacent to Kraut’s Locker and is being proposed by Todd Jones.
Well, the votes have been counted and the ballots have been double checked. The total ballots cast were 1219. Jim Struzyk came in with 1014 votes and there were 73 write-in votes for the Mayor’s position. The candidates for council (a four-year term) were Jeff Vehrenkamp with 831 votes and Bill Bires 907 votes. There were 54 write-in votes.
The council recognized Carrie McGill for her donation of $400 to the youth of the community on Halloween.
The Council approved the contract for solid waste and recycling collection for Spring Valley with Waste Management. There was a correction in the original contract from the 1st day of November to the 1st day of February of 2013.
The next Council meeting will be on Monday, November 26.
