‘Pets’ is the theme for the season finale “Over the Back Fence” Community Variety Show at the St. Mane Theatre in Lanesboro, Minn. The show will be held on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m., with pre-show music by the Lanesboro Methodist Church Praise Team beginning at 7:10 p.m. Our favorite (and only!) host Damon Prestemon will be on his toes as usual, and Heidi Dybing will be ready at the piano. Highlights will include poems and readings, music by the Rutabaga Brothers, a slide show featuring favorite pets, Diane’s Delectable Doggie Treats (an audience participation give-away), an appearance by the Pink Panther, and songs like “Hound Dog” and “Alley Cat” and “Puff the Magic Dragon.” In sponsor interviews, we will learn about the Lanesboro Christmas Inn Tour, F&M Community Bank, Coffee Street Fitness Center, and Associated Bank. The audience will be invited to sing along on “How Much is that Doggy in the Window?”, and the show will close with Carolyn Freese’s lovely soprano on “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You.”

The “Over the Back Fence” Community Variety Show is a program of the Lanesboro Arts Center, put together by a talented group of volunteers each month under the direction of co-producers Barb Keith and Heidi Dybing. The show took shape 18 years ago in the St. Mane Theatre, with many of the same cast members involved. This marks the last show in the 2012 season, with planning already underway for another great season in 2013.

“Over the Back Fence” takes the stage at the St. Mane Theatre on 2nd Fridays February through November. Each show will also be broadcast on KFIL Radio 103.1FM at 7 p.m. on the Sunday nine days following each live show. Show tickets are $7 for adults and for $4 students, in advance at the Lanesboro Arts Center, 507-467-2446 (open Tues-Sat), or at the St. Mane Theatre beginning at 6:30 p.m. on show nights. The St. Mane Theatre is handicapped accessible, located at 206 Parkway Ave N. in Lanesboro, Minn. This activity is made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the State’s general fund and its arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.

“Over the Back Fence” sponsors help to make the radio broadcast and affordable ticket prices possible: Associated Bank, Bluff Country Computer Works, Cedar Valley Resort, Church Hill School Condominiums, Coffee Street Fitness, F&M Community Bank, Fillmore County Journal, Green Gables Inn, Huntington Electric, Lanesboro BP/S&A Petroleum, Lanesboro Christmas Inn Tour, Lanesboro Local, Lanesboro Public Library, Little River General Store, Thomas M. Manion Attorney at Law, Niagara Cave, Olivia’s Attic, Pedal Pushers Café, Preston Foods, Rhino’s Pizza & Sub Shoppe, Riverside on the Root Restaurant & Outfitters, Root River Veterinary Center, and the Sons of Norway of Lanesboro.
