The Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD) has named Duschee Hills Dairy LLC of Lanesboro as one of eight Area Finalists in the 2012 Outstanding Conservationist Award Program. Pat and Chris Troendle and Ben and Darla Taylor will be recognized at a December 4th luncheon at MASWCD’s 76th annual convention in Bloomington. The awards program recognizes farm families, individuals, conservation organizations and other groups for their accomplishments in implementing conservation practices and improving Minnesota’s natural resources.
Of the eight Area Finalists, one will be announced as the State’s Outstanding Conservationalist of the Year at the December 4th luncheon.
“We’re proud of the Troendle and Taylor families for what they’ve done in conserving our natural resources in our area,” said Pamela Mensink, suerpvisor of the Fillmore Soil and Water Conservation District, which nominated Duschee Hills Dairy LLC for the award. “It’s great to be able to recognize the work they’ve done locally. They’ve provided a wonderful example for us by protecting their nearly 300 acres of sensitive with hay in contour strips which are connected by a network of waterways and buffers. Minimum tillage, cover crops, nutrient management and pest management ensure that the land will remain productive for future generations,” she said.
MASWCD, with support from The Farmer magazine, sponsors the Outstanding Conservationist Award Program.
