Fillmore, Olmsted, and Wabasha County Public Health and their partners are hosting a preparedness exercise titled “Operation Double Dose” from October 30 to November 1, 2012. This exercise is being supported through the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Grant which requires local public health to participate in training and exercises.
One goal of the exercise is to test the feasibility of busing the entire Fillmore County population outside of the county to receive treatment or care during a health emergency. The second goal is to check how efficiently vaccinations and/or medications can be distributed at points-of-dispensing sites. “The best way to see if busing and mass dispensing are effective is to try it on a smaller scale and fix any problems that occur so that our response during a real emergency runs smoothly,” stated Brenda Pohlman, Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, for Fillmore County Public Health.
Fillmore County Public Health is seeking volunteers, age 18 or older, to participate in the exercise on Thursday, November 1, 2012. These volunteers will help public health test the forms, transportation, and mass dispensing tasks that are part of the exercise. Interested participants will depart from Preston at 9:30 AM on a bus and return around 12:30 PM. Transportation to and from the mass dispensing site will be provided at no cost. Volunteers will also receive a free seasonal flu vaccination for participating. More instructions will be shared with participants when they register. Seats on the bus are limited. Those interested in participating are required to reserve a seat prior to October 26 by contacting Brenda Pohlman at 507-765-2636 or bpohlman@co.fillmore.mn.us
