Margaret B. Stensgard, 89, of Rushford, MN, died Friday, October 19, 2012, at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester, MN, where she had resided since May. Margaret was born on August 10, 1923, to Henry and Betsey (Ramsey) Berge. On December 17, 1942, she married Robert Stensgard in Lanesboro, MN. They spent their married life farming in the Bratsberg area.
Margaret was a member of the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church and its women’s organizations. She enjoyed quilting with the women at Highland Prairie and going to Circle. Margaret’s vocation was a homemaker which clearly defines her life. She loved her family, friends, flowers, handwork, and of course, baking lefse, rosettes and cookies for those she loved.
She is survived by two daughters, Marlys (Marlyn Mattison) Stensgard of Zumbro Falls, MN, Betty (Rex) Manion of Stewartville, MN; son, Ron (Martha) Stensgard of Rushford, MN; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey (Verna) Berge of Stewartville, MN, and Curtis (Arlene) Berge of Shakopee, MN; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Berge of Lanesboro, MN; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, three sisters, Mabel, Evelyn and Martha, and three brothers, Carl, Bennett and Archie.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd, at 11:00am, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kay Wold officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service – Rushford from 5-8:00pm, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Highland Prairie Organ Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. A special thank you to her friends and caregivers at Sunrise Cottages #9 for the love and exceptional care they gave Margaret.
Please share a memory of Margaret with the family, sign her online guestbook or view her video tribute when it becomes available online at www.hofffuneral.com
