Fillmore Central School Board approves winter coaches

Coaches for winter sports were approved at the Fillmore Central School Board meeting on September 25, 2012. Athletic Director Chris Mensink informed the board of the choices and the numbers for each sport.
According to Mensink, there are 53 boys signed up for basketball this year. The board approved the hire of Aaron Janssen, Aaron Mensink, Tris Tollefson, Kyle Lundquist, and Levi Olstad for coaching positions.
In girls basketball, there are 40 signed up. The board approved the hire of Brady Grewe to coach eighth grade, and Sarah Tollefsrud for varsity. There are still openings for seventh grade and ninth grade.
There are 21 boys signed up for wrestling, with five coming from Lanesboro. Jim Love was approved as the new head coach, with an assistant position still open.
Preliminary Levy
The board approved the preliminary levy at $1,434,123.08. Superintendent Richard Keith explained the 11 percent decrease is due to a reduction in Health & Safety funds, as they will be putting the money into the Alternative Bond instead.
The final levy will be set after the December Truth in Taxation hearing.
Principal and Dean Reports
Principal Heath Olstad reported that Fillmore Central had a great homecoming week with a very well attended Pep Fest on Friday. Dean Chris Mensink said the elementary students also had a great time and he thanked everyone who helped make the day go smoothly for everyone.
The One and Done Fundraiser for grades 5-8 was kicked off, and the forms are due back by October 3. Items will be delivered on Oct. 26.
Staffing
The board approved the hire of Barb Thompson as the Assistant Technology Coordinator starting on October 1. They also approved the hire of Angela Kaase as a Special Ed. paraprofessional at the high school for six hours a day.
Katie Gilman was hired as a Day Care Aide for 32 hours a week. The board also approved the hire of Jessica Marzolf as an Early Childhood Special Education paraprofessional at three hours a week.
The service contract for Mental Health Practitioner Supervision was approved for Kay Haugerud. The district will purchase eight hours a week of her time from Kingsland. A service contract was also approved for a school psychologist through Sunbelt Professional Services.
Other Business
Board member Jim Love informed the board that the Wrestling Booster Club had donated money to purchase three new wrestling mats to replace old ones. The old ones have been sold to private individuals.
The board also approved the following items:
•One request for graduate credit reimbursement
•The annual report on curriculum, instruction and student achievement
•A service contract for the school psychologist
•A resolution to seek quotes for snow removal and lawn mowing
•An open enrollment request for a 7th grade Kingsland student
•The general records retention schedule
•A sharing agreement with Kingsland for a Special Education Director
