LEVERN C. GROOTERS, age 97, of the Greenleafton, Minn., area, died Tuesday morning, September 18, 2012, at Spring Valley Estates.
Levern was born January 15, 1915, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of James and Anna (Elfrink) Grooters.
The family moved to a farm in the Greenleafton area when he was 6 weeks old. He attended country school. He married Beatrice Sikkink July 27, 1939, in Hinkley, Minn. The couple farmed in the Greenleafton area during their married life. Beatrice died March 17, 2005. He became a resident of Spring Valley Estates in October 2010.
Levern was a lifelong member of the Greenleafton Reformed Church. He enjoyed his family, friends, bowling, woodworking, and his garden.
He is survived by one son, Duane (Jerilyn) Grooters of Edmonds, Wash.; one daughter, Carol (William) Clausen of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Perlum Grooters of Spring Valley; and three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Grooters of Harmony, Glenice Grooters of Preston and Venita Sikkink of Spring Valley. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters and two brothers.
The funeral will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the Greenleafton Reformed Church with Rev. Roger Lokker officiating. Burial will be in the Greenleafton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston 5 – 7:00 p.m., Friday and at the church on Saturday an hour before the service.
