Well over a week ago, I heard the news about Lisa Brainard, Editor for the Chatfield News and Preston Republican-Leader.
When I found out that Lisa Brainard had fallen 24 feet from a bridge along the Root River Trail, I felt sick to my stomach. I could only hope she was on her way to recovery.
We have had many people call the Journal office asking for updates about Lisa, not realizing that she doesn’t work at our newspaper. While our newspapers are owned by two different companies, Dave Phillips is headquartered in Spring Valley, and my wife, Amanda, and myself operate our newspaper in Preston, many people see us as one in the same.
I consider our newspapers to be two ships passing in the night. I don’t know how many times Lisa and I have been at the same meeting, taking photos and writing stories about the exact same subject. So, to the public, we are one in the same.
From a journalism perspective, I think Lisa does a fantastic job, and I hope she gets back up on her feet really soon so she can return to a life of normalcy. Lisa is not only important to her newspaper, but to our community. I look forward to seeing her story of recovery in our local newspaper, along with the rest of her friends and family, near and far. With that said, we will be keeping Lisa in our thoughts and prayers, hoping for a speedy recovery.
