Dorothy Karen Mayer age 56, of Riceville, Iowa passed away Friday, September 07, 2012 at her residence in Riceville after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church of Highland in rural Lanesboro, MN on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Pat Hinkie officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Monday during the hours of 4 - 7 P.M. and one hour before services at the church.
Dorothy was born in Preston, MN on January 13, 1956 to Miner Alvin and Audrey Charlotte Berge Gudmundson. She attended local schools, and graduated from Lanesboro High School. Dorothy worked for Mayo Clinic in the accounts payable department and earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. On August 13, 1999, Dorothy was united in marriage to Randy Mayer at the First Lutheran Church of Highland. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. Dorothy was a deeply devoted wife, grandmother, mother, sister, and aunt and will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include her husband Randy of Riceville, a daughter Kari Kozak of Iowa City, IA, a son Karl Kozak and Angie Mihm of Waterloo, IA and a stepson Shawn and wife Dana Mayer of Stacyville, IA. and their children Brennan, Mackenzie, and Rylie. Also surviving are four brothers: Maynard and Jean Gudmundson of Elysian, MN, Jerry and Doris Gudmundson of Rushford, MN, Karroll and Laura Gudmundson of Lanesboro, MN , David and Chris Gudmundson of Lanesboro, MN, a sister Shirley Ehler of Thornton, CO, a brother-in-law Jerry and Janet Mayer, a sister-in-law Carol and Leroy Janssen and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband Randy Kozak.
