The Road to the White House

I don’t know how the candidates feel, but “The Road to the White House” has been a long and painful experience to any Americans who are paying attention. The political machine is chewing us up, and on November 6, will spit us out. Once we cast our vote we will no longer be relevant and politicians will go back to ignoring us.

The Republican convention was not about loving Mitt Romney, it was about hating President Obama. The Democratic convention was about loving President Obama. The coming election will establish which is stronger “hate” or “love”? Romney doesn’t appear to be “for” anything. He defined his campaign as “being against anything Obama is for!”

Obama is for creating jobs, affordable Healthcare for all Americans, improving education, investing in research, protecting the environment, and women’s rights including equal pay with men in the workplace. He supports gay rights, respects science, and understands that our shrinking glaciers and climate change is a cause for concern. He will fund FEMA and maintain an agency that is ready to respond to floods, fires, earthquakes, and other disasters.

He seeks to reduce our involvement in war, bring home our troops, see that our military have the resources they need when they are fighting and healthcare and jobs when they return to civilian life. He believes we can ban assault weapons without infringing on Second Amendment rights. He has struggled with the problem of illegal immigration. While he has deported more aliens he has shown compassion to young people who grew up in this country and are here through no fault of their own.

He has stepped up protection of our borders and increased drilling for oil. He stood up for workers bargaining rights and saved the auto industry. He supports developing alternative energy and energy conservation. He is for improving transportation and developing high speed rail. He is thoughtful and makes decisions based on facts instead of wishful thinking. He has the courage to make difficult choices where our national security is involved.

I guess if Mitt Romney is “against everything that President Obama is for,” that he’s against all these things. So far I haven’t seen him take a stand on any moral issue and he changes his mind more often than he changes his socks!
