First of all, make sure that your flyer/insert is of the highest quality in design and medium available. Be sure to utilize the basics of design and composition that have been presented in earlier “Ask the Expert” columns.
Postal distribution is an option but can be expensive and, due to stringent regulations, very time consuming. The best option is to place your flyer as an insert into an established and well distributed newspaper. Most quality publications will offer an extensive list of distribution options.
Insert into an entire edition;
The publication will insert your printed piece into every copy of their entire distribution. This will usually be charged at a flat rate per thousand.
Insert into postal zones;
In this case you can designate specific distribution areas by USPS Zip Codes. Each Zip code will have specific boundaries by streets and number of drops in that zone. This is an excellent way to maximize your dollar output by targeting specific neighborhood demographics. Bear in mind, you must provide an exact number of copies for each designated zip code. These charges are also a flat rate per thousand.
