On August 13, 2012, Benjamin Thomas Olson, 20 of Chatfield, appeared before Judge Robert Benson at the Fillmore County Courthouse. He faced charges of Drugs in the 5th Degree, possession schedule 1,2,3,4 controlled substance, not a small amount of marijuana, and Drugs in the 5th Degree, sale, marijuana mixture. Each one of those charges has a maximum penalty of five years in jail, $10,000, or both. He also faced charges of driving after license revocation, drugs- possession of over 1.4 mg marijuana in car, and drug paraphernalia.
The charges stem from an incident in which Olson was allegedly found driving a truck that had just been spotted in a ditch. Police allegedly smelled marijuana and found some in the truck. Olson was released on $10,000 unconditional bail and must have no contact with the co-defendant.
Ryan Lee Kite, 35 of Preston, appeared before Judge Benson on August 16, 2012. He faced three charges of check forgery, each with a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail, $20,000 or both. He also faced two counts of theft. The charges stem from when Kite was working as a bookkeeper and was allegedly found to be writing out checks for himself. He allegedly took $10,100 in forged checks. He paid $10,000 in unconditional bail, and must not have contact with the victims or go on their property.
Barry Lee Snyder, 65 of Preston, also appeared before Judge Benson on August 16. He faced two charges of theft, each with a maximum penalty of five years in jail, $10,000 or both. The charges stem from an incident in which Snyder was allegedly taking cash from his place of employment and not leaving records of the transactions. He was released on his own recognizance with $5,000 unconditional bail.
Michael Adam Skurdahl, 36 of Rochester, appeared before Judge Benson on August 20. He faced two charges of check forgery and one count of identity theft. Each charge has a maximum penalty of five years in jail, $10,000 or both.
Police found that several bad checks had been written around Rochester and Spring Valley, and contacted the man whose name was on the check. He said his driver’s license had been stolen. Skurdahl allegedly stole the license and made fake checks with his name on them and spent almost $50,000 at businesses. He was given $5,000 conditional bail and $10,000 unconditional. His next court appearance is August 29, 2012.
