Leland “Cap” Sagdalen, age 83 of Mabel, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, surrounded by his family at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel .
Leland was born July 10, 1928, in Spring Grove, Minnesota to Melvin and Eva (Garness) Sagdalen. On February 4, 1950, he married Zelda Sherburne in Spring Grove. They lived for a short time in Yucatan where they operated the Yucatan Store, before moving to Mabel. He worked numerous years for Roverud Construction and later was self-employed as Sagdalen Construction. He spent the last few years of his life at Green Lea Manor.
He enjoyed playing cards and the Sunday afternoon gatherings with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Leland is survived by his wife Zelda of Mabel; seven children Terry (Gloria) of Spring Grove, Roxanne Shefelbine, Debbie (Lorren) Tingesdal, and Peggy (Jeff) Williams all of Mabel, Cindy Zafft of Canton, Alan (Natalie) of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, and Paul (Sue) of Chatfield; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Virgil and Alden; and four sisters Delores, Sylvia, Lillian, and Melfa.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Mabel United Methodist Church in Mabel. Burial was in the Trinity Cemetery in Spring Grove.Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel handled arrangements.
