Millard Heinalch Runge, 88, of Harmony, MN passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Harmony Health Care Center in Harmony, MN after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Runge was born on February 15, 1924, to Carl and Louise (Haas) Runge at home on the family farm near Harmony, Minn. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul’s (Big Spring) Lutheran Church and was a member there all of his life. He graduated from 8th grade at the Big Spring Country School at Harmony.
Millard worked for a short time at Ben Bard’s garage but was primarily a farmer his entire life on the Runge home farm, which was also a Century farm.As a dairyman, he was proud of having a top producing DHIA cow.
Millard enjoyed visiting and was known for his quick wit. He enjoyed many activities including going on trail rides, roller skating, dancing, playing guitar, and playing cards. He made toy tractors out of leftover nails and screws.
He was a past president of the Harmony Saddle Club and served on the Fillmore County DHIA board.
He is survived by his sister, Anita Runge of Harmony, sister-in-law, Marie Runge of Mankato, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruth, Esther, and Lottie; and his brothers, Leonard and Carl.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the St. Paul’s Cemetery Association.
A memorial service was held on Monday, June 4, 2012, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Big Spring in rural Harmony, MN. Burial took place at Big Spring Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony handled the arrangements.
