Ray Edward Ewalt, 95, of Harmony, MN passed away on June 1, 2012, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, IA following a short illness. Ray was born on March 18, 1917, in Bristol Township in Fillmore County, MN, the oldest son of Burleigh and Tillie (Mouw) Ewalt. On January 9, 1942, he married Ruth Johanna Anstett of Preston. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, in both the United States and Europe. He has been an American Legion member since his discharge from the Army in 1946. Following WWII, he operated a hardware store for many years. Ray also worked as a rural letter carrier for 45 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Mooney of Minneapolis, MN and Shelley (Dr. David) Larson of Independence, IA; seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years, Ruth, one brother, Clint (Dorothy) Ewalt, and one sister, Shirley (Stuart) Faber.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony, MN. Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery in Harmony. No public visitation was held. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony handled the arrangements.
