To the Editor,

Campaign season must be here: Kenny Tschumper is spewing more nonsense again.

I agree with him on one point. It’s a shame that the Vikings stadium was the Number 1 priority for Governor Dayton and the DFL this year. It didn’t even make my Top 20. But let’s remember, the stadium uses no General Fund dollars, which is why I supported it.

My priorities were putting record amounts of funding into our rural K-12 schools, protecting nursing homes from budget cuts when the DFL-led Legislature left us a $6.2 billion budget deficit in November, 2010, putting more people to work, and improving our economy.

All of those were accomplished. Minnesota now has a $1.3 billion surplus, and our unemployment rate is far below the national average.

Tschumper tried to do nothing but raise everyone’s taxes – poor and rich – while he was in office. He did nothing but toe the line for Minneapolis liberals, and now suggests he’s more in touch with our district, despite allowing the Preston nursing home to close on his watch.

Meanwhile, Governor Dayton and the DFL killed my bill this session that would have created more jobs than the stadium and the bonding bill combined, provided job credits for hiring veterans, assisted first-time home buyers and college students with loans, and provided thousands of residents and Main Street business owners with tax relief.

This was a bill supported by small businesses and organized labor. And that’s corporate welfare in Kenny’s world? That’s out of touch with our district?

Read the bill Ken, and try to show some objectivity. As an Obama/Dayton disciple, I realize your playbook consists of complaining about what’s been done in the past, while never offering any solutions of your own. It’s clear some things will never change, and Tschumper’s one of them.
