To the Editor,
Many people believe that Mitt Romney’s strategy is banking on American’s short memory accusing President Obama of doing not enough to promote America’s recovery is a better argument than blaming him for the effects of George Bush policies.
Those same people forget that the 2007 budget deficit that ended September 20 was $162 billion. This deficit was long after Bush’s tax cut kicked in and spending on the two wars and Medicare programs were in place. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office had projected Obama’s budget will produce a $977 billion deficit next year. Remember that the Democrats controlled congress in 2006-2007 and led by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, spends a record amount of money. Neither President Bush nor President Obama put a stop to the spending.
President Obama’s health program means more taxation in the future. Since Obama has been in office, entitlement spending has risen 41 percent to about $1 trillion a year with an astounding 126 separate anti-poverty programs in place. America’s $14.4 trillion debt keeps rising with no end in sight and Americans are struggling the pay the bills. President Obama ignores the bipartisan Bowles-Simpson Budget Commission plan to control future deficits.
Tim Penny’s “On Memorial Day, let’s pay it forward” was an excellent opinion on the Rochester Post Bulletin issue on May 28, 2012.
