Small scale pork and poultry production

On the afternoon of August 25th, Hoch Orchard and Gardens will host University of Minnesota Extension for a field workshop on poultry and hog production near La Crescent, Minnesota. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about free-range poultry and heritage pastured pork production.
The workshop will provide general information on breeds, feeds, housing, pasturing, and making it pay. Wayne Martin, Alternative Livestock Specialist with University of Minnesota Extension will be presenting along with the Hochs who will share their experiences in both ventures. Poultry will be discussed from 1:30 to 2:30 with hog production from 3:00 to 4:00.
Please pre-register with your name, contact information, and number of people attending via Jake Overgaard of Winona County Extension at over0128@umn.edu or 507-457-6445. Hoch Orchard and Gardens is also holding an open house from 12-5 the same day. Feel free to come for either or both events.
Directions to the farm: Take Houston County Road 6 West of La Crescent 8 miles and turn right on Forster Road, the farm is at the top of the hill, on the left, look for the high tunnel.
