St. Paul – Today, the Republican Party of Minnesota filed a complaint against Representative Steve Smith running in House District 33B against Republican endorsed candidate, Cindy Pugh. To date, Smith has failed to file his 15th day pre-primary-election report with the Campaign Finance Board. Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Pat Shortridge issued the following statement regarding the complaint.
“With the primary just 8 days away, voters in Smith’s district deserve full disclosure from a public official aiming to earn their vote. What is Smith hiding by not publicly releasing this information as required by law? His constituents deserve to know who is funding his campaign and whether his values correlate with their values. This has become such an important issue because labor bosses created a shadow committee, Citizens for Smith, to help him circumvent the Republican endorsement process.
“Smith has proven to be exactly the type of politician that Minnesotans are tired of - someone who thinks rules apply to everyone but themselves. I would urge residents of 33B to vote for Cindy Pugh in the primary on August 14.”
