To the Editor,
Last Friday night, my family had the pleasure of going to the Fillmore County Fair in Preston. We had planned to meet my son and his family for supper and arm band night for my grandsons. We were delighted to find that the midway was clean, safe, and run by people who liked their job!! My grandson (age 4) had a FABULOUS time riding each ride and was delighted to know that he could ride as often as he wished to. As he left one ride, he told the attendant “I’ll be back!” As he approached that same ride later, the man said, “Hey, Buddy, I’ve been waiting for you!!” Needless to say, my grandson had a wonderfully memorable night, much of which was due to the kindness of the midway staff.
Several of the ride staff noticed my other grandson (age 2) with his mother, and asked if he would like a ride, too. They were very encouraging and were very careful for his safety. He rode several times, but was mostly content to watch his brother and cheer.
As we meandered through the games and food stands, we were pleased to find that the people supervising the rides were not the only great people on the midway staff. We visited with game and concession staff who were interested in people- not just in making money.
We would love to see this midway group return in the future! I know that the midway is but a small part of the fair. Many people spend countless hours making certain that things go smoothly from the grandstand to the 4H projects to the food stands and everything in between. I would like to say a big HATS OFF! Especially to the fair board, as well as to each person who had a part in making this year’s fair such a success!
