The Fillmore County Salvation Army, in collaboration with local law enforcement, is sponsoring the first ever, “Shop with a Cop” event in Fillmore County Saturday, August 4.
“Shop with a Cop” has been successful and eagerly anticipated program in a growing number of Minnesota communities. The Fillmore County Salvation Army is focusing this event around the back to school needs of children entering 3rd grade. The monies allocated are funds raised in Fillmore County and applications were provided to families living in Fillmore County.
Children and their “Cop” mentors will meet at the B&B Olympic Bowl in Preston. After being introduced, the children will be escorted to Alco in Spring Valley to shop for school supplies, clothing, and shoes. Pizza and bowling after will give the kids an opportunity to get to know Fillmore County’s real life heroes.
This is an important and ground-breaking event. Our goal is to create positive relationships between our peacekeepers in uniform and the young lives they may touch. Our mission is to offer “Shop with a Cop” every school year.
Officers and kids will meet at 10am at B&B Olympic Bowl for sign-in. They will shop at Alco in Spring Valley from 10:45am until 12:15pm. They will return for pizza and bowling from 12:30pm until 1:30pm. Parent pick up is from 1:15pm until 1:30pm.
