Lanesboro, Minn. – ‘The Roaring Twenties!’ Will Showcase Songs of the 1920s in this Month’s “Over the Back Fence” Community Variety Show on Friday, August 10, 7:30 p.m. at the St. Mane Theatre

The excitement and romance of ‘The Roaring Twenties’ will be revisited as the theme of this month’s “Over the Back Fence” community variety show. It will feature a variety of historical and cultural references from the 1920s, such as George Culbenson’s recitation of the poem “The Roaring Twenties,” a reading from The Great Gatsby, and excerpts from 1920s radio scripts. Featured music includes the Gershwin string quartet tune “Slap That Bass” and Barbara Benson Keith’s performance of the “Betty Boop” song. Also included will be a sing-along of “I’m Looking for a Four-Leaf Clover,” a performance of “Stout-Hearted Men,” and music by special guest Michelle Lynn. In sponsor interviews, we’ll learn about the Root River Veterinary Center. Break out your flapper dress, practice your Charleston, and come early! Pre-show will begin at 7:10 p.m. with music by Nick Danielson.

“Over the Back Fence” takes the stage at the St. Mane Theatre on 2nd Fridays February through November. Each show will also be broadcast on KFIL Radio 103.1FM at 7 p.m. on the Sunday nine days following each live show. Show tickets are $7 for adults and for $4 students, in advance at the Lanesboro Arts Center, 507-467-2446 (open seven days a week), or at the St. Mane Theatre beginning at 6:30 p.m. on show nights. The St. Mane Theatre is handicapped accessible, located at 206 Parkway Ave N. in Lanesboro, Minn.

This activity is made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the State’s general fund and its arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
