Dorothy Marie Blagsvedt, age 86, of Sacred Heart, died Monday, July 30, 2012, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 3rd, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. The Rev. Dan Bowman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the church in Sacred Heart. Visitation continues on Friday one hour prior to the services at the church in Sacred Heart. In Lieu of flowers, memorial preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Dorothy Marie Blagsvedt was born on October 13, 1925, on the family farm near Whalan, Minnesota to Martin “Bob” and Alma (Brekke) Eithun. She received her education at The Benson School near Lanesboro, Minnesota. Following her education, Dorothy worked for Honeywell in Minneapolis for some time. She was united in marriage to Sidney Blagsvedt on August 26, 1944, at the church parsonage in Lanesboro. They lived in Rochester for five years and then moved back to Lanesboro. In 1949, Dorothy and Sid moved to Sacred Heart and there together they raised their family. While the kids were in school, Dorothy was active in their school activities including FHA and the PTO. Dorothy was a member of Ours Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart were she hold many offices with the ELCA, and was active with the Luther League, taught Sunday school, and was ambassador to the Green Lake Bible Camp. She was also a member of the Homemaker’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary for over 54 years, and was active with the Historical Society, the Blood Mobile, and the Sacred Heart Village Chest. She enjoyed camping, traveling, spending time at their cottage with her family, and was a wonderful cook and baker, she will be fondly remembered for her angel food cakes and her homemade doughnuts.
She is survived by her husband Sidney, her daughters: Kay (and Joe) Thompson of Willmar, Carol (and Ronald) Peterson of Sacred Heart, and Pamela Nelson of Willmar; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; her sisters: Eunice Applen of Lanesboro, and Janet (and James) Bremseth of Ramsey; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Merton Eithun and her sister Shirley Wangen.
