Want some perspective on where good food actually comes from? "Bring a camera, a cooler and unleashed curiosity," suggests Nancy Martinson, board chair of Lanesboro Local.
The Farm & Garden Tour kicks off at 11 a.m. July 31 with a trio of stops in the Rushford area:
A farm that features a wind turbine, grass-fed cattle, orchard and woodworking operations.
A guided walk through fields and facilities of one of Minnesota's most successful CSAs.
A closeup look at an original lefse making operation (plus the secrets of Ufda! Chips).
A flight of three stops at 3, 4 and 5 p.m. in Chatfield round out your daytrip:
Where good local meat comes from, a local USDA-inspected processing and smokehouse facilities.
Insider's look at a glass-bottled dairy and the contented Guernseys behind this family-owned local operation.
Happiest pigs, chickens, turkeys and cows in the area - specialty of this family-owned, eco-friendly farm.
Before the tour, start your Saturday at Lanesboro Farmers Market Kid's Day Celebration. During and after the tour, enjoy specials on local food, drink and entertainment at participating Lanesboro Local member establishments.
Lanesboro Local is a non-profit venture established in 2009 to connect local growers, producers and artisans with consumers from near and far. The mission of this organization is to support local individuals and businesses whose success directly contributes to the strength of the rural economy. Visit their website at www.lanesborolocal.org and their retail Marketplace at 207 Parkway Avenue N in Lanesboro, MN.
Reserve your place on the Lanesboro Local Farm & Garden Tour. There is a charge for this fundraiser and space is limited; call Pam Niven today at 507-467-3505 to reserve tickets.
