May is finally here, prom season is in full swing, and Memorial Day is right around the corner. Now my English teacher always tells me not to write about the cliché things people always say about graduation, but I just can’t help it, so here goes.
Graduation is fast approaching for everyone, not just high school seniors. College students are about to graduate, parents are preparing for graduation parties, and grandparents are proud of their grandkids that are graduating this year. It’s just a fun time of year. The excitement that comes with graduation is unparalleled. Its an unbelievable feeling to know that after so many years of school, homework, tests, projects, and all those assignments you’ve done, you’re about to move on to even bigger and better things.
“Moving on” seems to be the thing that saddens people at the time of graduation. For students it’s leaving life-long friends and the familiar setting we’ve known for so long. Parents are losing a child that will no longer live at home. But why are people so sad? I think people should be happy for those who are graduating! The word commencement means the beginning or start of something, as in the beginning of life as an adult, which is definitely something to be happy about. Many people will leave this area for college or work, maybe they’ll join the military, or they could study abroad and see the world. Whatever future plans may be, graduates are making them, and it’s a very exciting time.
I know I have greatly enjoyed my time at Mabel-Canton High School with my classmates, and to be graduating in less than one month from now is the most exciting thing I can imagine. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me over the years because you’ve made me who I am today. Although M-C will be greatly missed, the class of 2012 is ready to face the world!
