Chatfield siren agreement with Olmsted County

The Chatfield City Council at their April 9 meeting approved an agreement with Olmsted County for the operation and maintenance of the city’s warning sirens.
The purchase of the updated sirens was approved in February. The total cost including installation was about $48,000. Olmsted County had offered last summer to take over the activation and maintenance of the sirens. The sirens will be triggered from the storm center in Olmsted County to alert the public of hazardous weather conditions. Olmsted County will monitor weather with weather radar and visual spotters that are located strategically across the county.
The sirens are to be tested monthly. The regular signals at noon and six will continue.

•Christopher Musty was hired as a volunteer fire fighter.
•The city’s annual clean-up was authorized to start on May 7.
•Arbor Day in Chatfield will be April 27. Tony Lammers said they will be planting a tree at the elementary school on that day at 1:00 p.m. Chatfield was named Tree USA Community for the twentieth year by the Arbor Day Foundation.
•Mayor Don Hainlen noted the city had received a wastewater accommodation from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) for the fourth year in a row. He praised the city’s wastewater treatment plant operators for their good work.
