Walter Wiltgen, 88, of Harmony, Minn. passed away on March 14, 2012, at the Harmony Healthcare Center.
He was born on November 6, 1923, in rural Ossian, IA. He was the son of William and Mary (Uhlenhake) Wiltgen. He attended Lee Country School and DeSales Parochial School in Ossian, IA. He was united in marriage to Betty Daniels on March 4, 1945, at Ossian DeSales Catholic Church by Father Donald Weydert. Walt worked in various positions in the Harmony area before beginning a career with the Harmony School District as a bus driver in 1951, followed by a 26-year career as a custodian where he retired in 1986. He loved dancing, playing cards, wood working and traveling. Walter and Betty spent 22 years wintering in Arizona.
Walt is survived by his wife Betty; three sons: Ronald (Sharon) of Gaylord, Minn; Wayne (Mary) of Perham, Minn; Terry (Sharon) of Rochester, Minn; two daughters: Susan (Tom) Ehlen of Farmington, Minn, JoAnn (Stephen) McBroom of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren who he loved and enjoyed immensely; one brother, Donald Wiltgen of Grand Junction, CO; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Wiltgen of Ossian, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Mildred (Art) Einck and Dolores (Ben) Balvin; four brothers: Raymond, Francis, Ralph, and Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony, Minn. Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery in Canton, Minn. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled arrangements.
