On July 2, 2012, Jerome Sondre Halvorson, Jr., 47 of Lanesboro, made a first appearance before Judge Robert Benson at the Fillmore County Courthouse. Halvorson faced charges for three counts of Financial Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult, which has a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail, $20,000, or both. He was also charged with two counts of Theft, and two counts of Theft by Swindle.
A bank called police with concerns about Halvorson’s mother’s account. His mother lives in a nursing home. Halvorson allegedly used money from her bank accounts at casinos in Arizona and Minnesota, as well as at ATMs and Kwik Trips in the area, totaling approximately $19,403.99. Halvorson was released on his own recognizance, with $20,000 unconditional bail. His next appearance is July 16, 2012.
Jesse Cole Julian, 18 of Chatfield, appeared before Judge Benson on July 3, 2012. He was charged with Drugs in the 5th Degree possession, not a small amount of marijuana, and Drugs in the 5th Degree sale, both with a maximum penalty of five years in jail, $10,000 or both. He was also charged with drugs, possession/sale of a small amount of marijuana, and paraphernalia, both with have a maximum penalty of a $300 fine.
The charges stem from an incident in which police heard about a truck going into a ditch. When they arrived, the truck was gone, but they then pulled over a truck that had mud on it and was damaged. Police could allegedly smell marijuana coming from the vehicle, in which Julian was a passenger. They found marijuana in the vehicle that allegedly belonged to Julian, as well as a pipe.
Julian was given $2,000 conditional bail and $10,000 unconditional. He must not have any contact with co-defendants or drug users, and must submit to drug testing weekly. His next court appearance is July 9, 2012.
